Collections and Exhibition Route
The “Leonessa d’Italia” (Lioness of Italy) Museum preserves a significant part of the heritage dedicated to the Risorgimento history of Brescia, stemming mainly from donations by the citizens since the late nineteenth century. Precious objects, paintings, flags, and sculptures, along with recent acquisitions by the Brescia Museums Foundation, such as the remarkable painting by Jean Adolphe Beaucé, "General Niel on the battlefield of Medole in 1861," offer a comprehensive and engaging overview.
History and Location
Among the first museums of its kind in Italy, the Museum of the Risorgimento was established in 1887 and has found its home in various locations over the years, including Palazzo Martinengo da Barco and the Castle of Brescia. After significant restoration, the collections have found their definitive abode in the Grande Miglio of the Castle, while the Piccolo Miglio houses services to the visitors.
The Digital Collection
The innovative digital collection of the Museum serves as an essential complement to the visit, offering a deep dive into the history and key concepts of the Risorgimento. Through slideshows, musical tracks, a detailed Risorgimento Atlas, and digital exhibits, visitors are guided through the crucial stages of this pivotal historical period. Particularly evocative are the interactive screens, such as "The Ten Days of Brescia" and "The Garibaldini of Brescia," allowing a reliving of the most important events and getting to know the protagonists of those unforgettable days.
The Museum of the Risorgimento in Brescia, through its rich collection and innovative approach to cultural consumption, stands as a guardian and privileged narrator of a fundamental part of Italian history. Welcoming visitors of all backgrounds and ages, it aims to transmit a heritage of knowledge and emotions that will remain alive in the hearts of all who pass through it.
