Descrizione
It is a collection of more than 250 original photographs by 48 of the most important and representative Italian photographers of the 20th century, ranging from documentary and journalistic photography to fashion photography, from portraiture to research photography, from advertising to landscape photography, and recounting the richness of styles and personalities of Italian photography.
In addition to the permanent collection, Macof hosts temporary exhibitions on aspects, moments, authors, of the history of Italian photography and organizes popular and research activities.
The aim is to propose paths of storytelling and reasoning on photography, following the multiple possibilities of reading it offers ‒ as a historical source, language, art form, mirror of collective experience ‒ in a constant interweaving between the work of study and popularization on memory and critical reflection on the ontological status of the photographic image and its future in a Third Millennium marked by the epochal transition from the physicality of analogue photography to the virtuality of digital photography.
